Apparently reading shampoo bottles and other stuff on the toilet is a thing. So if you’ve ever taken the time to read what’s in shampoo, while doing your business or on another occasion, you’d see there are a lot of mystery ingredients in it. Mostly chemicals.
This is where this recipe comes in. It takes me so long to grow my hair, that I want to cherish the small wins I have when it finally gets to a good length. So why give your hair a chemical bath with that fake (yet satisfying and full) lather?
Store-bought shampoo has a detergent-like substance that strips your scalp of natural oils and your head has to work overtime to restore it. That’s why you have such a greasy mop so quickly!
Train your scalp with this shampoo and less frequent washing – you’ll soon see that your hair not only adopts to it but looks and feels better. Don’t forget that saying, absence makes the scalp grow fonder…
Lavender Shampoo Recipe
⅓ cup castile soap
1 ½ cups of water (distilled)
1 Tbs coconut oil (melted)
3 drops lavender essential oil
3 drops rosemary essential oil
Both lavender and rosemary help with soothing the scalp, reducing flakes, and improving hair growth. It also makes your hair shiny in a non-grease ball way.
I recommend using a glass bottle for this shampoo as it’s better to avoid essential oils in plastic containers. Not to mention, it looks nicer and using less plastic is a good thing. Mix all the ingredients together in the bottle and ta-da, you have shampoo!
Is this shampoo going to just be like your Pantene at home? Of course not. It’s not full of additives to make a huge, fake lather. Just like finding a good boyfriend, it’s on the inside that counts, not washboard abs and a convertible. Feel good in using natural products (that are actually natural and not just marketing).
Wet your hair and add a small handful onto your head and work it in. The lather will also depend on the amount of castille soap used. The amount in this recipe should produce a pretty decent lather. If you’d like to use more, go for it, but a big lather isn’t the goal here. A healthy and clean scalp is, along with dandruff free shoulders. Your shirts and shoulders will thank you.
