The summer weather is full swing and it’s nice to treat yourself with a cool adult beverage rather than the same old cheap shit you’ve been guzzling all winter.
I personally don’t like overly sweet drinks so this fizzy plum gin smash is a refreshing cocktail but also not diabetes inducing. I mean, I wouldn’t drink 10 of these all night because I don’t want the hangover from hell, but it’s great for day time drinking or when you have people over.
You might be like, “Hey Ola, I thought you were Polish and only drank vodka?” I would say you are correct on both fronts, however, I am a woman of the people and I realize not everyone is a fan of the potato juice like I am. Generally, I find gin to be the pine elixir of the devil and don’t drink it, however, it works with the thyme and plums. Plus, I didn’t use the garbage kind of gin aka the cheapest bottle.
This cocktail looks boujee, but it’s really simple to make. Plus, when you buy thyme for any kind of cooking, you only need like 2 sticks but it comes in packs of like 1000, so here’s an idea to use some up!
If you’re like “I don’t have thyme for this”, then kudos on being witty but you do. I mean, it’s not like you’re really that busy when you refresh your instagram feed over and over one day?! You don’t know that many people…
Don’t skip the thyme because it adds a herbaceous, lemony flavour and it’s like $1.50 for the package at the grocery store. You can also just buy the plant at the grocery store for $5 and have it all summer long #genius.
Fizzy Plum Gin Smash
2 plums, chopped up
1 lemon, juiced
5 oz gin
2 oz thyme simple syrup (½ cup water and ½ cup sugar)
1-2 cans of club soda
bunch of thyme
To make the thyme simple syrup, add ½ cup water and ½ cup sugar into a pot and bring to a boil. Take off heat and add in like 10 sticks of thyme. Let it cool. You can either use it within an hour or put it in the fridge overnight to get it all thymey.
In a cocktail shaker or large glass, muddle the chopped plums with the thyme from the simple syrup. If you don’t have a muddling stick, just use the handle of a wooden spoon. You can add in a few fresh sprigs too. Add the juice of one lemon and the gin. Strain and pour into a pitcher with ice. Top with club soda.
Prep your glass with ice. Yes, use glass. This isn’t an occasion for slumming it with plastic. Add some thyme sprigs and a few sliced plums. Pour the fizzy plum gin smash into the glass, let your hair down, bra off and bask in the glory of this drink and sun while you slowly get day drunk.
