What’s a refashion? It’s when you take a piece of clothing that isn’t working for you and you turn it into something that does.
Months ago, I came across this blog, Refashionista.net and I have been hooked! I think I’ve read most of her posts. She buys clothing from thrift shops for pennies and refashions them into something cute.
I decided to try it out with this striped button up shirt. I really like the colours but it’s pretty big for me as it’s a size 12. I thought I’d make it into a cute top for work.
However, I must come clean on something. This is not my first refashion. I did my first one a couple weeks ago but I forgot to take a ‘before’ picture so not very ideal for a blog post. So this is my second refashion!
I took off the sleeves, put the shirt inside out on my bust form and pinned in the sides. Sorry, I forgot to take a photo of that too (Geez Ola, get your shit together — yes, sorry, I know!)
I sewed the sides, finished off the arm holes, and ta da! A sweet new top that I think looks pretty great! I gave it a quick iron before putting it on and it fit really well.
To be honest, I should’ve ironed the shirt before hand because it could’ve messed up my sewing if the material bunched together. Luckily, that didn’t happen. Now I just have to wait for some sun and warmer temps!
