“Ola, I don’t want apple cider or apple butter because I’m an adult.” Ok ok! I promised all you boozehounds that I would make an alcoholic beverage with the apple cider and today is that day, so get your livers ready!
Actually, this isn’t a drink to go and get shit-faced with because I suspect the hangover would be a boozy doozy (lol). Then again, I would say that about most drinks…
I made this a couple times for my husband and I and then again for some friends before a wedding and it was a hit! Then again, who doesn’t love showing up to someone’s house with free booze that gets put in front of their face to try?
The apple cider marries well (ha! I did it again) with the tasting notes of bourbon which can be smoky, vanilla, spices, and/or caramel. It’s a match made in autumn heaven! This recipe utilizes my homemade apple cider but I guess you can use store-bought. Not sure what Ina would say about it….
Ha ha…oh, Ina…
This is a great drink for fall whether you’re in the middle of carving your pumpkins or at some Halloween party parading around in your slutty animal costume. It’ll add that je ne sais quoi to your night!
Bourbon isn’t really my liquor of choice since naturally, I have vodka running through my veins, but sometimes it’s nice to try something outside of your done-to-death-missionary-style repertoire, particularly when it’s such a complementary pairing. Yea, you can use vodka instead but it doesn’t really add a flavour unless you’re a moron that drinks Smirnoff and likes the taste of rubbing alcohol.
Plus it’s a cocktail, so it’s not an overly bourbon flavour, but rather enhances it along with the other ingredients. Stop being a baby and just try it already. If not, go drink your stupid Smirnoff Ice and piss off.
Apple Cider Bourbon
3 oz apple cider
1.5 oz bourbon
Add a few ice cubes to an old fashioned or rocks glass. Pour in the bourbon and apple cider. I used Knob Creek as you can see from the photo. Mix with a bar spoon if you have it (I’m just a natural Tom Cruise in Cocktail) or just a regular spoon if you don’t have one.
Make sure you mix it for at least a few seconds to get it mixed well and get some of the dilution from the ice. Top up with ginger ale. You can also do soda if you like but I like the zip of the ginger.
You could also add a bar spoon of the apple butter to enhance the apple and spice flavours. I would stir it really well to blend or mix it with the apple cider and ice in a cocktail shaker ahead of time.
Either way, cheers and sto lat 🙂
