Valentine’s Day is a made up holiday, but then again, who doesn’t like getting chocolates and candy?! Also trying to explain to a child what a Hallmark holiday is will result in your house being egged for cheaping out and your child becoming a pariah at school. So don’t be the buzzkill parent and prep some fun Valentine’s Day treats for kids.
Below are three different fun treats for school kids…or adults, I guess. Just make sure you know how many kids are in the class because I had a situation in kindergarten. There were eight kids in my class plus our teacher Mrs. Weber. Alan only had 8 chocolates and decided to be a kiss ass and give one to Mrs. Weber. Yea, that was MY chocolate. Either Alan’s mom effed up or Alan is a pig and ate one on the way to school. Moral of the story: know the number of kids in the class and don’t raise your kid to be an asshole like Alan.
I purchased the bags and decorative paper at the dollar store. I used a stapler and double sided tape to attach the labels. You can print the labels but I just used a sharpie. All the snacks were purchased at Bulk Barn. If I was smart, I would’ve purchased a few days earlier and used their $3 off coupon!
Valentine’s Day Treats for Kids
Goldfish Crackers – You’re a great catch!
I mean, it’s not going to be true for all the kids in class, but it’s a nice thing to say. It might boost a few egos, although I’m sure some of the ones that aren’t good catches might not even get it. At least they’ll enjoy the goldfish snack.
You can use the snack size bags of goldfish, but I didn’t want to purchase a case of them just for this so I shoved them in a zippered bag.
Gumballs/Gummies – I chews you
This reminds me of that classic Simpsons episode where Lisa breaks Ralph’s heart. I know it’s referring to a train and not gum, but I think kids prefer gum over trains. Also, if you think about the pun, it’s kind of morbid.
Lollipop – I’m a sucker for you
With all the food rules at school, gluten-free, nut-free, etc, I think lollipops are an easy option. It’s also one of the easiest where you can just tape it to a valentine.
Stay tuned to a couple more blogs this week with more Valentine’s Day ideas 🙂
